 Concentrated sunlight

WARREN – A local invention is one step closer to winning a provincial prize.
The solar beam concentrator, designed by Edward Herniak of SolarTron Energy Systems Inc., has been named one of 25 inventions to make it to the second round of the InNOVAcorp I-3 Technology Start-Up Competition.
Candidates to debate
AMHERST - With a federal byelection about a week away, the Amherst Daily News and CKDH Radio have joined forces to host an all-candidates forum for the riding of Cumberland-Colchester-Musquodoboit Valley on Nov. 3.
The forum will run from 7-9 p.m., and be broadcast on CKDH, and possibly an online stream.
Candidates participating in the event include Conservative Scott Armstrong, New Democrat Mark Austin, Green Party candidate Jason Blanch, Liberal Jim Burrows and Jim Hnatiuk of the Christian Heritage Party.
Narrow roads better?
WENTWORTH - While the province says it will maintain bike lanes on both sides of the highway through the Wentworth Valley, area residents don’t feel narrower means safer.
Transportation Minister Bill Estabrooks was given an earful by close to 100 people who crowded into the community’s recreation centre last night to express concerns with the province’s plan to reduce the width of the highway from 12.4 metres to nine metres.
